Steve came to the pack station in 2008 as a rescue from one of the KFC Roundups. She arrived with 5 others just as they were approaching egg-laying age. Steve layed brown eggs.
Her untimely death in June 2009 was a result of hypothermia, caused when she got stuck in the watering trough.
Here you have two choices in the story behind the name, one is true. The first is that he was named for Steve Burns, one of our cabin owners that is a black & white photographer. The second that she was named for Steve Cash, the harmonica player for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, who can played chiken sounds on the song "Chicken Train".
