Whiskey has a rather confusing past, but has made Chantry Flat her permanent home for many years. She was an excellent lead horse in her prime. Easy & calm on the trails and could get up and go when you asked her to.

She was first purchased as a filly by Tom & Karen Johns of cabin #73 She was a Christmas present for the kids. They had her waiting in their backyard on Christmas morning. The kids were so involved with what Santa had left they didn't notice her for a long time. Meanwhile, she managed to break all the sprinkler pipes in the lawn.

When the kids lost interest in her they sold her to a couple of girls that owned a cabin here as well. When that novelty wore off, she was sold to volunteer patroleman Ed Gouth. Whiskey had difficulties with stream crossings back then and Ed, not yet retired, did not have the time to work with her so he sold her to Dennis Lonergan, former Pack Station owner.

The girls had named her "Lyric" and it was Dennis that changed her name to Whiskey. He is also responsible for how well trained she is, although it is in her nature to be sweet. Dennis and Bill Adams took her down to the Winter Creek ford at Roberts' Camp and led her through 50 times in a row to break her fear of water.

As Whiskey aged, she had a rough time getting back up the hill to Chantry. In May of 2006 she fell 80 feet in a trail accident. She has recovered nicely but was thereafter retired. Considering our limited space and resources, the correct business decision was made in early 2009 to donate her to a ranch where she can spend her final years. This was difficult, as Whiskey had become such a fixture here and is our friend, but we can always visit her at her new home in Simi Valley.
