About this blog
I originally created a blog for the cabin owners of Big Santa Anita Canyon, to write about their visits to The Canyon for history's sake. Nobody used it. So if they want to send me a story I'll publish it on the Pack Station site and I will take over blogging duties. I'm sure there will be much discussion over MY blog and whether it's appropriate to have it on the Pack Station site and what I write about, but SOMEBODY ought to start recording life in the canyon.
Who am I? Officially, I am the "Ranch Hand" at Adams' Pack Station. Yes, that means I clean donkey poop. I enjoy it and I do it proudly. Very few people can be trusted to give this important duty the respect it deserves. I also get to feed the animals; twice a day, every day, on time, rain or shine.
I do a lot of the packing in the canyon (starting in 2003 with former Pack Station owner Kim Kelley). I build trails, mend fences, cook, landscape, direct the public, and help to keep everything running smoothly. I also designed, wrote and continue to build the Pack Station website.
I live full time at the Pack Station and see a lot of what goes on in The Canyon; and usually hear the rest. But I will only write my first-hand experiences here. Any opinions contained herein are my own and are not meant to reflect those of other Pack Station members.
I will try to be entertaining or informative, ideally both, however the nature of a blog is also to record ones thoughts; sometimes as a stream of consciousness. My apologies in advance of any dull or uninspired entries, but maybe they'll have some esoteric historical value in the future. I may change this introduction once in a while, so if you're really desperate for reading material, scroll down this frame.
I can already see that the word "I" will appear a lot in these pages. But since I refers to me and this is my blog, this is probably unavoidable. Maybe I can break the monotony by occasionally spelling it "eye" or "aye", or referring to myself in the third person.
I hope you and the future generations will enjoy.
