Now offering ice cold beer for sale
A small store has occupied the front porch of the packer's residence for decades. Permission was originally granted to broaden the narrow profit margin of an outfitter. The store is maintained today for the same reason, but also in deference to the historical aspects of our Canyon. We offer cold drinks, hot coffee, ice cream & candy, snacks, maps & books, batteries, sun screen etc.
The Forest Service requires an Adventure Pass to park at all "developed areas" if the forest. We sell passes as a courtesy during our regular business hours. Daily passes are $5.00 each. Annual passes $30.00 and a Secondary Vehicle Annual is an additional $5.00. If the store is closed when you arrive, simply park in our lot and leave $5.00. No pass is necessary to park at the Pack Station.
* NOTE: Everyone is welcome when the store is open. But please remember that we have many responsibilities and that this is also our home. We ask that you respect our business hours and our reasonable expectations for a little time to ourselves.
Weekend BBQ Cookouts 11 am - 5 pm
Lunch is served at the Pack Sataion on Saturdays & Sundays. Hot Dogs & spicy Hot Links are grilled to perfection by Rich, who takes great pride in them. We now offer cheeseburgers and french fries. If you are lucky, you will find Eric Woodyard, our resident Dutch oven chef, making pulled pork sandwiches. These are served with his special sweet & spicy 'slaw, potato salad and dill pickle.
Parking in the Forest Service lots can be difficult, so just pull into our lot and we'll take care of you.

The San Gabriels
by John Robinson
The history of the San Gabriel Mountains might have been lost without the work of John Robinson. Have you ever wondered what those concrete foundations are from or why there is a palm tree, a lemon tree and a bank of ivy growing together in the middle of the forest? Chances are the answers are in this book.

Gateways to Southern California

An incredible amount of work went into this book. It chronicles the history of our mountain passes from Indian footpaths to railroads to highways. A bit academic but a must have for the SoCal history buff.

101 Hikes in Southern California
by Jerry Schad
I guess Jerry had to add a hike to make this book better than John's. It's pretty much more of the same but it's good for the book collector and I'm sure you'll find something new in here.

Afoot & Afield in Los Angeles County
by Jerry Schad
There's a lot of redundancy to these Jerry Schad books. I suppose what sets this one apart is a little more history and descrpitions of what you'll find out for yourself if you do the hike. A good book nonetheless.
